Totimoshi is a hard rocking power trio from Oakland, California, who have been kicking out the jams since 1997. The music on their latest effort "Avenger" could be grouped with the likes of The Melvins, Big Business, Shellac, and possibly even Wolfmother. No two songs sound the same as they are all quite varied which is impressive, and they all get the blood pumping. Consisting of nine tracks and one intro, which totals right around forty-two minutes of running time, this is a gem of a rock record. The drum monster that is Chris Fugitt, and his combination of slam, bang, funk, and groove, perfectly sticks to guitarist/vocalist Antonio Aguilar's compositions like glue every step of the way, and every way you want it to. Bassist/vocalist Meg Castellanos lays down some thick four string molasses as the whole band acts as the three headed Ghidora - every member perfectly complementing each other.

The production is very clear and up front, and the use of effects on both the vocals and guitar leads/harmonies is very tastefully done. Aguilar's style is quite varied and unpredictable as the songs shape shift and evolve, and he is no slouch on the fretboard when it comes to soloing either. The album closer "Waning Divine" is the longest track (6:36), and features Scott Kelly of Neurosis and Brent Hinds of Mastodon. This is definitely the heaviest offering on Avenger, and being a natural born metalhead, it is of course my favorite one. I have a new favorite modern rock band.
