DEADLY CARNAGE - SENTIERO II - Ceneri

Label: Independent

Release: 2011

Lovers of black and doom metal might be pleasantly surprised by the musical work of Deadly Carnage. The latest release “Sentiero II: Ceneri” finely combines the decadent melodies of doom metal with the aggressiveness of primordial Norwegian black metal.

“Guilt Of Discipline” has the old school black metal groovy mood that makes you think about Darkthrone and early Satyricon. The drumming is tight and oppressive while the lead guitar tends to add a slightly melodic touch throughout the song.

“Parallels” starts off with melancholic lead guitar riffs. The rhythm section is quite powerful and constructed according to traditional black metal style except for few tempo changes. The only element that doesn’t fully convince me here is the feeling that the growls are not strong enough to support the instrumental quality.

“Growth And new Gods” is quite aggressive with a sinister atmosphere yet it maintains a groovy guitar sound with an epic vibe at times. Again, melodic guitars manage to ease the overall heaviness.

“Ceneri” feels like wandering through the fog on a winter night. This track revolves around a somber atmosphere in the style of movie soundtracks. Everything is peaceful here with soft acoustic guitars, whispered vocals and various keyboards layers.

In the end, there are a lot of good ideas scattered on this album and I can definitely perceive a lot of potential in Deadly Carnage’s music style. All that is needed is more focus on details in order to smooth some rough angles and that type of wisdom that inevitably comes with age and practice. For now I would suggest you to check out “Sentiero II: Ceneri” and keep an eye on this Italian act.
