The Devil's Blood and their new release "The Thousandfold Epicentre" are basically a retro occult band, paying tribute to the psychedelia of the late sixties and acid rock of the early seventies. The main word that comes to mind while listening to them is "haunting." This is mostly thanks to the fallen angelic vocals of the woman known as: F "The Mouth Of Satan" or F/TDB/MOS and who obviously studied at the school of Jarboe. Accompanied by a man going by the name of: Selim "SL" Lemouchi or SL/TDB/A-O, the two are the only band members I could find a mention of online, although the album definitely contains more than just guitar and vocals; drums, bass, piano, and keyboards all appear in the mix. Finding a real biography of the band online proved to be somewhat difficult and annoying since it appears that they like to keep a low profile as far as public statements. I'm sure this is their way of trying to keep themselves as mysterious as possible. The few statements I was able to find are all metaphors and generalizations, mostly about their Satanic message, how they serve the master, and the ritual experience of their black mass live show. Blah blah and ho hum - they could easily swap statements with the Swedish band Ghost and no one would be able to tell the difference. We seem to have a rash of bands out to spread a message these days and I don't particularly care to be preached to about anything by anyone. I personally prefer to have it confined within the song lyrics. Fortunately, they do make some damn good music. One thing I think I can safely say is that they originate from the Netherlands. Other than that, all I can tell you is the music, vocals, and production are all top notch, and that I enjoyed listening to this record a great deal. Give it a listen if you like bands like Ghost, Black Widow, Coven and Pentagram. http://www.thedevilsblood.com/ http://www.metalblade.com/ |
